Many have characterized this plague as a war.
They are likely correct, even if they don’t yet know how correct they were.
When a nation faces an existential threat, there will be mass casualties.
And we are nearing the time when that choice must be made.
And whoever makes it will need the personal solace of God himself.
A war that half the nation refuses to believe exists.

Even the dichotomy on FR is a fascinating picture of this...what happens when presented with a situation where there are no good answers (I get reminded of those on the top floors of the World Trade Center, who decided the best of the bad answers was to jump).
There are those here who would fight “Captain Trips” above all else and leave the issue of what is left of your country till after you have defeated.
There are others who do not believe that the virus is as devastating as those above, but who believe that the result of staying shut down until the virus is eradicated or cured will destroy the society and the nation, leaving us in a dark ages, or perhaps under the rule of the most ruthless nations left in existence, for the remainder of our natural lives.
There are probably those that believe neither as well...but I have no doubt that this is playing out in society at large as well. And it is possible that the rift cannot be closed and on the other side of this will be something that is not the nation we had before this, regardless of who was right.
