An online lifeline in Portugal for old ventilators amid coronavirus crisis
“LISBON (Reuters) - As hospitals struggle to cope with a shortage of life-saving ventilators to treat coronavirus patients, a group of volunteers from Portugal launched on Tuesday evening a unique platform hoping to bring old, unused medical equipment back to life.
On the online platform Vent2Life, Portuguese hospitals can create free accounts and report malfunctioning equipment stored at their facilities. The platform will then link the hospital with a skilled technician who can fix the problem.

IMSA team involved with facemask production to help COVID-19 battle
A company with strong ties to IMSA and NASCAR is shifting some of its work to manufacture facemasks in the midst of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Composite Resources, which is the Rock Hill, South Carolina-based parent company of CORE Autosport, began shipping hundreds of facemasks Tuesday after starting up production four days earlier.
“In a matter of 24 hours, we had a prototype, the material come in, had a production plan, had an e-commerce site set up,” Morgan Brady, the chief operating officer of CORE Autosport, told NBCSports.com in an interview Monday.

Key medical glove factories cutting staff 50% amid virus
Malaysia’s medical glove factories, which make most of the world’s critical hand protection, are operating at half capacity just when they’re most needed, The Associated Press has learned.
The Malaysian government ordered factories to halt all manufacturing starting March 18. Then, one by one, those that make products deemed essential, including medical gloves, have been required to seek exemptions to reopen, but only with half of their workforce to reduce the risk of transmitting the new virus, according to industry reports and insider sources. The government says companies must meet domestic demand before exporting anything.

The partygoers intentionally got together “thinking they were invincible” and purposely defying state guidance to practice social distancing, Bashear said.
“This is one that makes me mad,” the governor said. “We have to be much better than that.”

“To everyone who has left New York over the last few days, because of the rate of the number of cases, you may have been exposed before you left New York,” Dr. Deborah Birx said at a White House press briefing, adding that “everybody who was in New York should be self-quarantining for the next 14 days to ensure that the virus doesn’t spread to others.”
“No matter where they have gone, whether it’s Florida or North Carolina or out to the far reaches of Long Island,” Birx said.
Even if half of the New Yorkers self quarantine (good luck), Florida hospitals will soon look like NYC’s.

India sets 21-day ‘complete lockdown’ to stop coronavirus spread
It could be the biggest lockdown of its kind in human history.
DELHI and LONDON — Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced Tuesday that the country would be imposing a “total ban” on Indians venturing outside their homes to combat the spread of coronavirus, in perhaps the largest restriction on the movement of people the world has seen.
Addressing the nation in a televised address, Modi said the strict lockdown was necessary to “save India and every Indian.”
“From 12 midnight tonight, the entire country will go under a complete lockdown,” he said.

Thailand imposes state of emergency to control coronavirus
Thailand’s government is imposing a one-month state of emergency allowing it to impose stricter measures to control the coronavirus that has infected hundreds of people in the Southeast Asian country
The move gives the government additional powers to implement curfews, censor the media, disperse gatherings and deploy the military for enforcement. Details about what exact measures will be imposed are to be released later.
In a brief televised address, Prayuth assured the country that he is not instituting a lockdown yet.

How long are they supposed to stay home for?
If someone doesn’t have a good immune system do they have the right to make everyone else stay home?
Why should you have the right to demand someone else should remain in their home?

I don’t remember seeing anything in print, but we do know, and it can be verified, that many Chinese fleeing Wuhan rented hotel rooms in NY. Also there was the St Pattys parade, and also the Chinese Lunar Year, Stand with Wuhan parade. So lots of crowded group events.
