Keeping Spring Break open fits in well with the goal to get herd 9immunity among the young.

And if you do it all at once it crashes the HCS and then the economy. And 1 in 11 people die. Which permanently destroys the HCS and creates a depression.
So a metered approach is best while we develop countermeasures such as a vaccine, treatments such as HCQ+AZT, and build the friggin’ ventilators and other medical items we will need and make the drugs we will use.
What’s so hard about that?
Build what we need now. Make the drugs used to treat. Develop vaccine for future inoculations.
Gradually expose the population, keeping the case load low enough so that our HCS, now going into war mode, can sustain the load and respond to hotspots. That way, the 1.something% CFR, like in South Korea, which is horrible enough, does not become the 9.something% CFR, like in Italy.

I’ve seen indications that it’s being used as such.
The question remains, if taken prophylactically, do you develop antibodies if exposed. If not, you’re just kicking the can down the road.
‘seniors’ own and run the majority of businesses in the USA. Lock them up and there are no jobs for the stupid who think jobs just materialize because they want them.
Better to turn the seniors loose to run their companies, and only let 20-50yo’ds come back to work, with a doctor’s clearance note after 15 days of provable quarantine. And lock up the rug rats that are the carriers for 21 days while your at it. If the kids test clean, and their parents don’t get sick from them, their young parents can come back to work - with a doctor’s clearance.
I think people are bright about whatever it is they “do.”
On the rest of everything else, most people are ignorant. Not stupid. They just don’t know what they are talking about. But, they want to sound smart. So they go along.
Honestly, I think Trump has handled this fairly well.
I think this decision is a mistake, but I don’t get a vote. I am not going out anywhere, so it doesn’t matter to me.
This is the week we should start seeing people die in large numbers.

It is a trade off.
The majority of deaths are in the 70 plus age group, so it probably will not crash the economy, as harsh as that may sound.
Right now, we have a quarantine order. People are still socializing here in WA state.
The only way to stall it is do as China did. Lock people in their homes.

Another issue with 401K they are not truly diversified.
I move my 401K from a high risk to a stable fund because I saw it before it happen.

That particular family of meds has been out of favor for that for over 20 years, perhaps longer.
IIRC the current favored med is an artemesinin family compound.
FWIW I don’t believe any of the mortality numbers from China. I might be convinced that beijing and shanghai had lower numbers but only becuase they isolated them sooner and ‘protected’ them.
However, there are likely food born/herb/spice antiviral compounds that may have/currently be moderating serious cases/deaths in other parts of the world.
I’ve wondered if the death rate ‘lacking’ in Germany is because they might eat a lot of fermented veggies...
A shutdown is inevitable. Many of the mild cases cause the infected to miss from 1 to 3 weeks. This is not the flu bros.
