A kid who licked toilets as part of the #CoronaVirusChallenge says he's now in the hospital with coronavirus. @gayshawnmendes was also just suspended from twitter
*To be read with an Alan Wicker Accent*
“BOAC Comet. The height of luxury travel for the 1960s. Deluxe square windows as standard. Dropping you off at random destinations on route.”
Yeah, you Brits and the decimal system ... not always a firm relationship there.
LOL!
Ab-so-LUTE-ly.
In fact, I have had to find a common denominator at least 12 times today.
Er - uh - that’s when you figure out what everyone in the meeting can agree on so you can settle an issue, right?
I was born in 1960 so I experienced them, albeit through a fog.
I never flew BOAC but I did fly People’s Distress. The only airline with a “Stop Requested” signal in every row.
Gaffaw out loud.
Although they can’t compare to one of NYC DSS conference calls.
I flew People’s Express, too, back when Newark International Airport was like a sketchy bus station.
Ah good, you can see it. :)
*The following is Moosie talking to the keyboard* :
That is an actual road sign.
The colour and font follow a scheme that provides some information without writing a thing. Blue background, Motorway info. Green Background, Main road info. White background ,either immediate information or local information. Brown, Tourist info.
On a Motorway you encounter all three in sequence. Blue ,Green, white and Brown.
The Font is used on all signs. It was designed by a lady in the 60s for the new Motorway network. Ridiculously easy to read even at speed.
What do you mean “back when”?
It’s now called “Newark Liberty International”.
Back when? I give you whippersnappers a back when. Back in the stone age, before Boeing 747s came into service after arriving in NYC, my first job was doing construction drawing detail work for Terminal C£. The terminal shells had been completed, so most of the work was architectural metal, counters, overhead monitors, ticket counters, etc. FAA approval of the 747s meant extending satellite boarding structures for them. Think of plan view of a series of lollipops connected to the main terminal, with planes parking nose to the circular loading structures. So big revisions had extensions to allow the adjustable loading bridges to dock with the planes...my sub-project. Overtime pay over two years was huge.;>)
Factoid: Pneumatic delivery tube network moved paperwork from main terminal ticket counters to the satellite terminals....whoosh!
iirc, the Sabre reservation/ticket computer system had just come on line about that time...American Airlines exclusive.?
First time seeing the gargantuan Terex trucks...in convoys, no less, moving sand and cement for the aprons and runways. Like watching 3 story houses moving at 30mph+ kicking up dust like a Saharan sandstorm.
That random metallic popping is simply a joyous surprise courtesy of BOAC!
It’s a much larger sketchy bus station now.
There was a period in the mid-90s, right after the rehab, when Newark Airport was new and nice, with chairs and everything.
Sabre belonged to American originally. They made a lot of money licensing it to other users. I was trained on it when I worked for the insurance company.
Lovely little chimera kitteh floof!
Good morning.
Mondays are not good for me. The Epic Fail Etc., Lawn Service gets here around 1100 and doesn’t leave until 1600, blowing dust and debris all over the place. They’re supposed to blow off the vehicles and blow out the parking spaces, but they do neither. I’m afraid to have this place completely sealed (”snug” I think is what its called here) because of the mold I think is lurking in all the walls, so there is a very small crack in the living room window, the bedroom window and the kitchen window. So I still get the dust and pollens in here. GAH!!
Anyway, today is my pain clinic appointment and on the reminder text, I was told to “wear a mask.” I’m too tired to make the drive, but I have to in order to get a new prescription for morphine. They’re non-refillable, being a controlled substance, and all.
Best wishes for the pain clinic trip! It’s a new day in which things might go better than yesterday.
D-minus-three!
I have to give myself extra time because my thinking processes are slowed and that means my reactions won’t be as rapid as they should be. It’s scary to drive when I feel like this.
I have days like that, too ... or at least afternoons. Be extra-extra careful! At least there’s more daylight than there was six weeks ago. I’ve been noticing the sun is up about the time I call the yutes at 6:15.
If it were flat terrain, as it was in Vegas (same distance from Henderson to the pain clinic in Vegas as it is here from Hurricane to the clinic in St George) it wouldn’t be so bad. But it’s hilly and the roads are winding, and I really should stay home.
So if I could ask for a prayer, please, that I’ll be alert? (The world has a shortage of Lerts, now.)
