When harvesting lettuce and greens, harvest only the bottom leaves so the upper leaves can continue to grow. Eventually, you’ve got some weird looking tall plants but it sure saves on seeds and grow time.

Also, they may have caregivers who could pass along CV. It’s hard to determine what part of the day to go shopping.

I’d like to top off tp and cleaners but don’t know whether our supplies will get us to the end of this or not. I’d hate to catch it now if we could last it out but then later, it may have spread more. It’s only been a week since no one has left the house.

Throw some bacon in there (southern thing lol).

Yep, lol

We've found something we like better than bacon now for adding seasoning to certain dishes, that is to use a small amount of toasted sesame seed oil in place of the bacon.

Good tip! Also, I switched from growing kale to collards. I try not to use pesticides and my kale was getting thousands of cabbage loopers and nearly impossible to get out of the folds/wrinkles. In my experience, collards are nutrient dense, easy to grow, have smooth leaves and much easier to keep pests off of.

My mom is a master gardener thankfully. We do have rich soil on my property but for added measure used the miracle grow as added nutrient rich soil. My main concern is the hard clay beneath what I planted.
I had a garden in Utah years back and had great success with that. This was when the kiddos were younger though. They’re picky eaters and so peppers and the squash etc are not on the planting list.
I’m curious as to how the fruits will grow.
thanks for the Clorox tip. I will use that. As for watering, heck we dont have to worry about that right now apparently. This rain doesn’t seem to cease lol. We will probably be complaining about lack of rain in the summer.

Well I had no doubt about that, but while it is true in our case, we are not on the same wave length as many others on this board who believe absolutely everything they read or hear. There is a bunch of nonsense, as well as, accurate information being disseminated. Even the best have trouble separating the wheat from the chafe. Which is why we disagree on some issues. In many cases we also do a terrible job of communicating. Not all, including me, are very good at expressing ourselves. 8>)

Just checked all of our area stores...for both delivery and curbside....no one has regular Clorox bleach.

We use it in our chlorinator.

May have to get creative :D

“I am very afraid is correct in his statement.”

I missed part of the presser, but the talking head just said that Coumo said they will need 140,000 hospital beds, not the 110,000 projected, and they will need them in two weeks.

It makes me think of other ways that New York could be the canary in the coal mine.

If New York is in really bad shape in two weeks, how will people across the country respond to that?

If blueberries and azaleas are happy in your yard with no amendments you likely have acidic soil.

I spread lime (from lowes) on my garden spot in the early spring, just because LOL.

YMMV of course.

I’ve also used the azomite stuff.

My souls are not very acidic, according to my mom. She is 80 and had both knees replaced so she purchased a tower garden contraption. She’s constantly harvesting veges from it. She is down in Savannah, GA.

New York starts with 53,000 hospital beds...just for reference.

"The governor says it's expected the apex of the outbreak in New York is likely 14 to 21 days away.

"The apex is higher than we thought and the apex is sooner than we thought. And that is a bad combination of facts," Cuomo said.

So far, Cuomo says New York State has procured 7,000 ventilators, but anticipates needing 30,000.

"This is a critical and desperate need," Cuomo told reporters.

The governor says the state will need upwards of 140,000 hospital beds to treat coronavirus patients."

If NY is 14 to 21 days away from the apex of infections, how far is it away from being significantly over capacity? And what will that look like?
