Actually, Pence contradicted Trump yesterday. Trump was telling the media that ventilators are complex, computerized machines. Pence got up there right after that and told them the machines are really kind of simple. Trump noticed too.
That was an interesting moment.
I think Pence has the attitude that it’s better to nip the misstatement in the bud. POTUS covered well.
It may be as simple as what defines simple for the two men. A respirator wouldn’t be a simple machine for a general machine shop to build to build but auto manufacturers are used to a very different level of sophistication and circuitry.

FWIW, that sort of ultimate judgment (simple/complex) is nothing more than a personal point of view. I have consideralbe expertise in machine design and control, as well as in the cost and difficulty (or lack thereof) of making parts. My "simple / complex" gauge is different from that of other people.
