There isn’t going to be anymore football.
The NFL will likely be the only sport not affected by this virus... And the first professional sport to actually air live games with fans. By September they will have a cure, or some pill combination that prevents this virus.
Golf may start up in August or September with a very shortened schedule and Baseball fans will need to accept a very shortened season... Like maybe a 50 or 40 games.
Hockey and Basketball are toast.
If, that is, life gets back to normal and if we ever have football again. I don't believe it will be this year, and 2021 is too far off IMO to prognosticate/guess at.
Let 'em go ahead and have the draft, but tell the guys not to spend money they don't have...
Likewise for college ball all the way down to pee wee ball. (Hey, maybe this would be a good time to ask really is there a point at which kids are being put out on the football field maybe a little bit too soon?)
"Stay in shape, take care of your books, live right, and we'll let you know when it's time to start practice again. Don't count on this season 'cause there ain't gonna be a season this season."
Seems kind obvious to this casual observer... meanwhile a lot of us have more time available this autumn to spend doing other stuff... no telling what might be going on in October, let's try to make good use of it...
They used to hold the draft in a NY ballroom with a bunch of people on telephones, a podium to announce the pick and a teletype to send the selections out to the press. There’s no reason they couldn’t do the same today. All you would miss would be the crowd shots and the inane interviews with the drafted players. Heck, they can teleconference now with “war-room cameras”.
Give Vegas next year’s draft.
