NFL plans to stage its draft next month in a studio setting rather than Las Vegas
LA Times ^ | March 21, 2020 | Sam Farmer

Las Vegas is off for next month’s NFL draft. No celebrations along the Strip. No boats navigating players across the Bellagio Hotel fountain to the stage. All that was scuttled in reaction to the coronavirus outbreak. But the event is still scheduled for April 23-25, and the league has gone back to the drawing board to determine how best to stage it. The NFL is not commenting publicly about what’s in the works, but according to two individuals with knowledge of the discussions, the current plans call for some type of studio setting with cut-ins from the headquarters of the teams making the selection at a given time.

No reason. The world as we knew it isn’t gone.

Everything is fine.

I know the current situation is bleak. I would guess we agree on how dangerous this thing is.

But there is no reason to try to balance foolish comments from deniers with foolish comments from yourself.

Maybe my comment is foolish. I wouldn’t mind, in the end, turning out to be a fool on that. I like football.

Bramps, at some point in the future, this is all going to turn into WWIII, and China started it with a WMD attack.

That’s what I think. I pray to God that I am a complete fool, total idiot, raving smacktard. Because if I’m right about that, we got big problems.

The one thing that leads me to believe that this is a WMD is the response of various world governments to it, including ours. They know something, and they aren’t telling.

The NFL will likely be the only sport not affected by this virus... And the first professional sport to actually air live games with fans. By September they will have a cure, or some pill combination that prevents this virus.

Golf may start up in August or September with a very shortened schedule and Baseball fans will need to accept a very shortened season... Like maybe a 50 or 40 games.

Hockey and Basketball are toast.

In spite of the fact that "My guy" was the first pick and went on to be ROY last year, the draft ceremonies (Roger Goodell) had become just a big Hollywood show and this can only be change for the better.

If, that is, life gets back to normal and if we ever have football again. I don't believe it will be this year, and 2021 is too far off IMO to prognosticate/guess at.

Let 'em go ahead and have the draft, but tell the guys not to spend money they don't have...

Likewise for college ball all the way down to pee wee ball. (Hey, maybe this would be a good time to ask really is there a point at which kids are being put out on the football field maybe a little bit too soon?)

"Stay in shape, take care of your books, live right, and we'll let you know when it's time to start practice again. Don't count on this season 'cause there ain't gonna be a season this season."

Seems kind obvious to this casual observer... meanwhile a lot of us have more time available this autumn to spend doing other stuff... no telling what might be going on in October, let's try to make good use of it...

I suppose I'm a moron too because I agree with this ^^^ right here.

Kinda "shifts the paradigm", doesn't it?

Or it’s just a virus. This isn’t something we haven’t seen before. And if it’s an attack, who starts an attack by bombing its own citizens?

They either bombed their own citizens by mistake, or they did on purpose to seed the rest of the world with it, which is what happened.

Their actions speak much louder than their words. I think the reason they are proceeding as they are is because they know this thing has the potential to end this country if left unchecked.

They used to hold the draft in a NY ballroom with a bunch of people on telephones, a podium to announce the pick and a teletype to send the selections out to the press. There’s no reason they couldn’t do the same today. All you would miss would be the crowd shots and the inane interviews with the drafted players. Heck, they can teleconference now with “war-room cameras”.

Give Vegas next year’s draft.

Yes. And obviously they can't tell the truth about the depths of the Chinese treachery because it would start a shooting war, which would blow very much.

The safe assumption would be that THAT subject is being treated with discretion even in the back channels.

"This isn’t something we haven’t seen before. "

Actually there's a reason it's called a NOVEL coronavirus. Nothing else like it, ever before. No one on earth has antibodies for it until they live thru it.

"And if it’s an attack, who starts an attack by bombing its own citizens?"

That would be a society that just doesn't value the lives of individual humans the way most of us here in the civilized world do. This would be an example of that thing that some people refer to as "normalcy bias".

A society that has a rich, ancient tradition of fighting wars by attrition, accepting vastly lopsided casualty numbers to effect destruction of enemy armies in the field. If it has to include what, several thousand (no one really knows) of their own civilians this one time, so what? It's their strong hand.

A country that would actually benefit from the confusion and chaos of taking some casualties of their own, ("so what, it's only [fill in the numbers from China here, if you can get a straight answer] or so, we'll fine after the dust settles...")

Meanwhile was someone saying something about someone else interfering in other countries' elections?

To cause havoc & gain control of the whole world, China would kill over half of THEIR population....You can count on that.

This virus only kills the old and those already with pre-existing conditions. Young and healthy people simply do not die from it. The Spanish flu was way more lethal. So if this is a biological weapon of war, it was pretty poorly constructed

They’d have to get half of India’s too, or they’d be outnumbered.
