For now, any overreaction has only helped slow the spread.

The important (and hard) part going forward is figuring out when and how to return things to normal life.

Some good news: In the USA, the percentage of critical cases (as a fraction of active cases) is .3%

Yeah, that’s point-3%.

The “death” rate (which is an improper measurement unless all cases are known)is dropping fast, now down to 1.26%.
(Deaths divided by total know cases).

My memory is that number was 3.8% maybe 8-9 days ago.

The responsibility of balancing the disease risk against the economic risk is not one I would relish guessing about.

And it is just a guess. We will never really know how good a guess once it takes place, probably little by little.
