That is a bit more reassuring about the fever tests. Thanks for the update.

Still, 20% of those who have it will be falsely reassured. And all their fellow diners.

Would you say it’s better than nothing? Calling Dr. Fauci. Hard to weigh the pro and con with this one, even at 80% agreement.

USA now has more China Virus (COVID-19) cases per capita than China:

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/#countries (last column on right)

Of course China’s case #’s are highly suspect. And having a 3.5 billion population helps too.

If they were expecting shutting down dining out places would get people to social distance, they were wrong. In SC they are walking right up next to each other with no mask.

On Facebook people think the government is over reacting.

It is not better than nothing. Zero is best. But, just so you know, some of the food establishments are being asked to keep drive through open by the WH

This is really important. Gov. Cuomo: 55% of NYS coronavirus cases ages 18-49. No false sense of security. Social distancing is paramount.

Without a full quarantine for 15 days, you cannot ID all the sick, much less the asymptomatic carriers.

I'm NOT going for 'the perfect'... never can. For example you can't remove all drunk drivers on a road at any given time either... but YOU can do things to reduce the risk of being killed by one... Everything from laws to 'not driving after midnight'... We need sane relatively safe compromises...

County Executive Steve Bellone confirmed Saturday that two more Suffolk residents have died from the coronavirus, including a fourth member of Peconic Landing in Greenport.

The county’s death toll is now at nine from the global pandemic, with at least 662 residents positively diagnosed with the virus.

“This is unlike any crisis I’ve seen in my time in government … in my lifetime,” the county executive said during his daily online media briefing.

Good point. We need more information. At what point in the incubation period does a person become contagious? Before high temps click in is the body creating enough virus to infect others. Maybe restaurants are out... too many strangers that can’t be ‘kept track of’... but this is a system that should work well in a company, grocery store, hospital, or pharmacy. Not fool proof but better than nothing. Good catch on the restaurant thing firebrand.

“Pity the poor schmucks who have to clean public restrooms. They WILL catch the virus.”

That’s why they are being closed. Not because the companies have figured out that they are big porcelain and tile fomites and want to stop the spread, but because the hourly employees have figured it out and don’t want to get sick.

Yes, I agree with Firebrand, sit down dining is too risky. Drive through *can* be safe but it depends on the precautions taken by the particular franchise. The only truly safe option is cook for yourself at home 🙂
