At this point in time I really don’t believe the out of stock condition will continue at quite such level for too long, but there are 2 things that have to be cleared out of the system first.
First are the people who are prepping. EVERYONE is putting away non-perishable food for time frames ranging from 2 weeks to 6 months.
Second are all the people who are not only cooking instead of eating out, but also stocking fresh food for 2 weeks instead of 1 week or daily or in many cases not at all if they only eat out.
It’s going to take some time for stores and supply chains to reorient how much food to stock and where for a literal overnight change in eating habits.
There’s still no evidence that our ability to grow/make/provide food is compromised. Just the eating habits and market conditions have drastically changed.
Yeah, there is all sorts of grocery store item supply volatility these days.
Sorta like Stocks.
I cruise local stores for out-dates.
Wonder how many out-dates will be coming up because of lowered store traffic?
The problem in rural areas is they have one grocery store for the entire county. People from the cities are coming in groups and like locusts, are clearing out the shelves with $1500+ receipts each. There is nothing left for the locals.
Last night, the only grocery store in San Saba County, TX burned. Now, they have nothing but a Dollar General and a couple convenience stores for food so there is no meat or vegetables. Don’t know the cause of the fire but it’s suspicious to me. There are sickos out there who would get their jollies from doing such.
