SLIDE ALERT

I keep pushing gin and tonics or, in my case, vodka tonics. Quinine in the tonic.

It is my understanding that the gin and tonic came to be because English military men stationed in India in the 19th century were issued quinine to take as an anti-malarial and figured out a way to be creative with it to make it more palatable.

‘Tonic water is a soft drink containing quinine, which gives it a bitter taste. Quinine is a common treatment for malaria. Some people believe that it can also help with leg cramps and restless legs syndrome. ... People have consumed quinine in tonic water to help treat cases of malaria for centuries.’
