Trump has given governors broad ability now to make decisions for their states regarding this virus crisis.

Executive order closing private businesses. Where does this authority come from?

From the general population's willingness to accept it.

The book Crisis and Leviathan by Robert Higgs details how government grows with every "crisis". Once the crisis is past, they back off on some of the government over-reach, but never back to pre-crisis levels.

“ Executive order closing private businesses. Where does this authority come from?”

I have been asking this very question. Under what authority can a gov just suspend constitutional rights? I’m fairly certain the answer is they can’t. This fact makes following these edicts very very dangerous to liberty as this is setting precedent. There is principle that indicates if you wave rights or do not assert them you lose them. This greatly concerns me that private citizens are following these orders as if they carry the weight of law. The people should insist these executive orders be clearly branded as suggestions or requests and NOT mandatory enforceable actions.

A judge in Texas says that order is illegal.

Government induced unemployment. Nothing official yet in British Columbia but many are doing that anyways. So we are going for Vietnamese for a late valentine date.
