In a press conference held on Sunday afternoon, California Gov. Gavin Newsom announced that all restaurants will have their occupancy levels cut in half and all bars will be closed to stop the coronavirus spread.
Newsom made the first announcement that all bars, night clubs, wineries and brew pubs are non-essential locations and will shut down. The Governor then stated that restaurants are a more “nuanced” issue and that the state doesn’t believe they require a total closure at this time. However, all restaurants’ occupancy levels will be cut in half, and patrons will be required to socially distance themselves in dining areas.
This message comes days after the governor banned all gatherings in California over 250 people. That being said, the governor did not address the closing of movie theaters in this announcement.
During the conference, Newsom said that 335 people have tested positive for coronavirus in California. The new tally of positive tests marks a 14 percent increase from yesterday. There have been six deaths from the virus in the state, with the sixth taking place in San Mateo county, where 32 cases have been recorded.
The announcement comes two days after President Trump declared a national state of emergency over the coronavirus pandemic and the U.S. travel ban was extended to include the U.K. and Ireland. The North American box office took a brutal hit this weekend after several theater chains limited their capacity to allow for social distancing. Overall, the box office hit a 22-year low point.
On Saturday, France also took precautions to limit the spread of coronavirus. The country closed all movie theaters, restaurants and non-essential stores. Places like pharmacies, grocery stores, gas stations, banks and newspaper stands still remain open.

I agree . It seems some of us here get it. But others believe the mainstream news media lies. The news media is shutting down the economy and taking away our freedoms.
I am very disappointed in the American people I thought we were better than this, I guess not anymore!! OMG most of us have lived through SARS, Ebola, H1N1 virus, Hong Kong flu, Asian flu, I have NEVER in my life seen this kind of hysteria, we are becoming a nation of snowflakes and THAT scares me a hell of a lot more than this damn virus!!!
Elites lose month-long cruises, fancy restaurants, symphonies, Broadway plays, expensive sporting events, world travel and nightclubs... Other than that all groups face the same horrors....

Same here. When we had the swine flu under Obama life went on, same with the flu and lots more people died with hardly a peep from the media.
Yes we need to be aware of this but the reactions thus far are designed to hurt the economy.
I expect many non-chain restaurants will end up closing for good and chain locations will carefully evaluate all their locations and close under-performing ones.
IMHO, when they get the desired result of to hurt the economy just enough then the COVID crisis will piratically end over night with a new economic crisis which they will blame Trump for.

The wild and crazy Mr & Mrs POF (both closer to 70 than 65) went wild and crazy tonight with their son and ate out. Fortunately we escaped the long arm of the law. Not only that we ate in a booth with people behind us, well within the required “Social Distance.”

It was really nice. Excellent Italian restaurant. They had their special Lobster Ravioli tonight and another Seafood Risotto special with shrimp, scallops, clams and salmon. Mrs. had an excellent pasta dish. If we croak, we’ll at least croak happy!

I don’t think that is their primary motivation. I do wonder if they would have decided to to the same thing as easily if a Democrat was President.
