The inevitable collapse of the EU.

The resurgence of populism, sovereignty, and nationalism in Europe.

Or it could fall into anarchy.

Looks as if that is where it could go.

Colleges switching to online teaching during the pandemic will make it clear that you don’t need the local buildings and teachers to get an education, thus shattering the current university system. Pick the best teachers in the world for your subject instead of just the ones at your college.

You mentioned the decline of globalism. In that category, less outsourcing of things vital to our national security like pharmaceuticals and machine parts.

Parents will get a better idea of the crap their kids are learning in school.

College students will reflect on whether or not what they are studying and where they are studying it is worth it.

I think people will finally wake up to the fact that the “homeless” are not people down on their luck financially but are overwhelmingly drug addicts or have brain damage from drugs, and are a hazard to society and a dangerous source of disease. They will disappear, one way or another.

Though things may look very dark
Your dream is not in vain
For when do you find the rainbow?
Only after rain

So wish on the moon
And someday it may be tomorrow
You will suddenly hear chimes
And you’ll have your happy, happy time

I was also wondering whether nine months to a year from now there will be a mini baby boom or a baby drought.

Given that most external entertainment is kaput, will couples resort to more home “entertain”, or has this viral atmosphere dampened the romantic mood?

People, ya gotta live. Diseases we thought vanquished in the US have reappeared thanks to our open borders. No one listened then and now the damage is done, so why the panic now? IMHO, take the same precautions that you would for the flu that goes around every year (which kills tens of thousands yearly) and, if you think you should, get tested for it.

I expect to be told tomorrow to work from home for the next three weeks. I’ll get an extra 8 hours a week for myself due to the commute I won’t have to make.

That’s 8 hours to read, get back to my crafts, exercise more, clean my closet, cook an actual meal, etc.

Many people in my same position might develop better habits, learn various new things, discover some activities that reinvigorate them, etc.

All those things becoming cheaper is because we are in the beginning of a depression. If it lasts two months, there will be very large layoffs. Every hotel, airline, vacation oriented business will shed employees like a hairy dog shaking off fleas. Many of the smaller business’ will not make it back. So watch out. The longer this thing lasts the more permanent the economic damage.

If the US and other countries get back to manufacturing the pharmaceuticals they can and making decent deals with non-hostile nations for those they can’t would be a silver lining.

2. Cheaper gas

Just filled up my tank and half my trunk at 93.9¢/gallon. OK, I had $1 off at Kroger so the original price was $1.939, but it was nice for one day to see the gallons move faster than the dollars.
