I was notified today that I have to work from home until May 1st. I dont mind.
“We may have less deaths from the flu because coryvirus caution.”
YES! I absolutely believe that. I’ve been thinking the same thing. Ironically, this year may actually result in the lowest number of deaths from all types of flus in a long time, because of all the precautions.
Less flu yes, But, I plan on dying from Cornyvirus..
If the US and other countries get back to manufacturing the pharmaceuticals they can and making decent deals with non-hostile nations for those they can’t would be a silver lining.
Those homeless losers won’t disappear. Every Monday and Tuesday the LAPD and dept of sanitation clean up 2 blocks of tents where im close at and these maggots ALWAYS come back hours later.
“A bump in the birth rate 9-10 months from know.”
Or not... See post #16.
Just filled up my tank and half my trunk at 93.9¢/gallon. OK, I had $1 off at Kroger so the original price was $1.939, but it was nice for one day to see the gallons move faster than the dollars.
My cousin is a biochemist. Told me he laughs at people panicking bec. Stores sold out of Lysol. The cheapest and effective anti bacterial is household bleach or Clorox.
Maybe some women will decide they really like staying home with the kids and doing schoolwork with them and will quit their jobs and form cooperative arrangements with other like-minded women to take turns watching kids, trading off on teaching different subjects based on what they are good at, starting some businesses together so that they can make a few bucks working a few hours a week at the business, etc.
Some marriages that really need to be ended may finally crack because the couple is around each other more due to one or both working from home. This will highlight the ideological differences driving them apart as they blame different political parties for the crisis. One member of the couple will at least end up much happier a year from now and hopefully with a true soulmate.
Those of us who actually Grow/Mine/Manufacture out here in the sticks get to go on about our business normally.
You cannot “Telecommute” working crops, mining, and actual physical manufacturing*.
No way you can shut down our industries, folk have to eat, food has to be canned, the cans have to be made, etc.
We hicks in the sticks get to point and laugh as our rural lifestyle provides all the “Quarantine” we need.
* As compared to pushing data around on computers.
Spending time at home, with family.
Save money by not driving as often.
Read books
Write letters
Call family
Maybe make the blanket I have been putting off.
I am basically a hermit so I have no problem staying home. Maybe I will rearrange shelves etc.
Initially the lower interest rates were of concern. Opening a new account. The bank decided to not go through with the offer due to interest rates. BUT, because he promised to me, we got it anyway. Whew!
I think one take away may encourage the single income earner. Schools are closing. They need a parent at home. It would be great if through this panic comes some common sense.
I am really tired so hope that made sense.
“Given that most external entertainment is kaput, will couples resort to more home entertain, or has this viral atmosphere dampened the romantic mood?”
The missus and I were snowed in for four days as newlyweds. Nine months later she gave birth to twin boys.
An old girlfriend of mine was a nurse. She told me they were busier that month than she had seen. The older nurses had told her to brace for long shifts and a full wing.
They were right.
Look for at least a mini boom.
I have pie!
Cheaper gas?? Oil has gone down 60%, yet here gas has gone down 10 cents. It’s a form of gouging. Even if oil is $10/barrel I don’t expect to see under $3.00 gas.
People are going to have time to read those books they have been meaning to read, engineers are going to have time to putter in their own workshops, people of all descriptions will get to pursue their own projects. We will get a baby boom out of this (anytime there is a major snowstorm everyone ends up pregnant), we will get a bunch of new small businesses, we will get a bunch of new inventions.
Its not gouging. Our refinery capacity is maxed out.
If we want cheaper gas, we need much more refining capacity.
The silver lining is mercury!
It’ll get people to focus on what’s really important.
It may help people become more self-sufficient and revive lost skills like gardening, cannning, cooking, making anything yourself, and other domestic skills.
The government may shut down.
