My team is near Kirkland, WA. They've been working remotely for nearly 2 weeks and productivity has definitely increased. I'm pretty sure the spike in productivity is due to them being out of the open space office environment. I've grown to really dislike that work methodology as it is too distracting to workers. The collaborative workplace LOOKS good on paper, but in reality it hampers productivity. People that code need to FOCUS hard, and that kind of work space is prohibitive to focusing.
Unfortunately Im in supplier quality so while we work remotely with suppliers all the time the internal dynamic is such that face-to-face is often required to deal with other functions...be an interesting next few weeks...:-)
