I think the tube into the lungs is referred to as a ventilator not a respirator. And some masks are referred to as respirators. Although the definitions I posted below are contradictory, in that Respirator is defined as a mask, but Ventilator is defined as a Respirator.

res·pi·ra·tor /ˈrespəˌrādər/ noun 1. an apparatus worn over the mouth and nose or the entire face to prevent the inhalation of dust, smoke, or other noxious substances: "for a time everyone had to work with respirators"

ven·ti·la·tor /ˈven(t)əˌlādər/ noun 1. an appliance or aperture for ventilating a room or other space. 2. an appliance for artificial respiration; a respirator.
