Laugh at these precautions if you like, but they do slow down the spread, and I can assure you that a LOT of people 60 and older are starting to pay attention. Those are the people that would overwhelm the system. As things get worse, you will see older folks getting much more serious and taking individual precautions. For those who ignore it because it's "just the flu", Darwinism will apply. Slowing the virus has been the only goal from the beginning. CDC and Public Health departments have stated this since January. A lot of people are screaming to "stop everything" to stop the virus, but that is not going to happen. The biggest casualties will likely be to our economy, and balancing the economic impact with healthcare and public health policy is the challenge.
Exactly 1 week ago, to the hour, we had 118 cases in the U.S. Today we have 805. That’s 6.8 times as many cases in just one week.
1 week = 805 * 6.8 = 5,474
2 weeks = 5474 * 6.8 = 37.223
3 weeks = 37,228 * 6.8 = 253,118
4 weeks = 253,118 * 6.8 = 1,721,201
We’ll see if it really plays out that way, but that’s how the numbers would go if we keep up this rate of increase.
Ya, but don’t worry, these millions that are going to be infected because we didn’t ban travel will get Trumps tax break he’s busy working on ...
I am in complete agreement with you.
Everything you said does slows down the spread, but the problem is the virus moves faster than “half measures”.
Even if the “half measures” slow down the virus spread by half, they have actually slowed it down by a few days at most...
Since they all 14 got it, we can assume they took their wives and they all swapped. Either that or it was one talented hooker.
Because...
Makes me wonder just how many western ‘officials’ and bureaucrats have been paid off by China to ensure ‘We’ get it at least as bad as they got it...
China basically owns the science/tech/engineering/medschools of every university in this country. Is it a stretch to think they own whole government agencies too?
re: RSA
is this the one Hillary likes to go to?
When you are hip-deep into this stuff it gets all over everything.
The concept of PPE protecting people is kind of a myth.
10 feet and 2 computer screens away. By golly, China has this thing beat.
“Even if the half measures slow down the virus spread by half, they have actually slowed it down by a few days at most...”
The goal now is to flatten the curve as much as possible.
Reducing the peak load on the medical system.
At least the party officials are wearing their masks correctly now.
This time last month they either weren’t wearing them at all or hand them over their mouth only.
“BREAKING: Massachusetts has just announced 51 *new* cases of coronavirus, bringing the total number of presumptive cases to 92 a 124 percent increase from yesterday. Seventy of the cases are related to the Biogen conference in Boston. Six people are hospitalized. #WBZ”
Sure hope the people in Houston are enjoying the Rodeo...
“Im a bit surprised at doubling”
Just started to really test, I assume.
Please note that if you run the numbers, half measures do not prevent a peak period, they merely delay it by a few days.
To actually flatten the curve you need mass quarantines.
Reasonable post. Anecdotally, the usually crowded roads are lovely to drive. Keep an eye on trucking. Since Trump, trucking has increased on our freeways to pre-2008 levels.
Thank you for that info.
Less than 1% now. Good
I drove up around Chicago in January there were more 18 wheelers on the road than cars and suvs. It was intimidating.
