Even still, high early-season vaccination rates and a relatively effective annual vaccine appeared to help suppress illnesses.
In total, the CDC estimates that up to 42.9 million people got sick during the 2018-2019 flu season, 647,000 people were hospitalized and 61,200 died.
Thats fairly on par with a typical season, and well below the CDCs 2017-2018 estimates of 48.8 million illnesses, 959,000 hospitalizations and 79,400 deaths.
..........................
Once again over 60k died from the flu in the 2018-2019 flu season.!!
This is normal!!
People don't stop traveling, close their businesses, stop doing business, raid the stores, or anything of the sort!!They go about their business as we should be doing.!!
CDC estimates are way off
Actual for 2018-19 as of Feb 19, 2019:
There have been 11,600 to 19,100 deaths so far.
A total of 34 influenza-associated pediatric deaths have been reported to CDC for this season.
For the 2017-2018 season, 185 pediatric flu deaths were reported.
Between 184,000 and 221,000 people have been hospitalized with the flu so far this season.
The CDC said the flu typically kills 12,000 to 56,000 people in the U.S. in a year.
The number of deaths were seeing is a little bit surprising, CDC epidemiologist Brendan Flannery told the Wall Street Journal. Its a reminder that flu can be severe.

Are you a medical doctor in any way at all?
Are you a medical doctor in any way at all?
Because as I, with a 99.9° temperature, look through my living room window at the love of my life (who is standing there crying, who I can’t hold to comfort) outside dropping off food and supplies while I self isolate as a previous 30 year smoker and recent extended contact with co-worker who is now being tested, your “just relax it’s the flu y’all” pseudo medical wanna-be know-it-all advice makes me want to Bitch-slap a wake-up call.
You piss me off dude.
If it’s just the flu, go f’n volunteer at the hospital. Maybe they could use your professional medical advice.
OK SME. Since you assume H1N1 is more dangerous - then you should be able to answer a question for me. Let us suppose we have two patient zeros; 1 with H1N1 and 1 with COVID-19. After the 10th generation of transmission, how many cases of each are there and how many of those cases require ICU treatment. Of those, what is the CFR? Are the numbers identical? If it's normal - then the numbers should be the same after 10 generations of transmission or COVID-19's may be less?. So - what is your answer. Thanks.
