Ive only known one person who lived through Iwo Jima. Landed on day 3 and was an artillery man. Great person, he wouldnt talk about the battle. Just his friends and his life after the war. They and those that serve are great Americans. MAGA
I play cornhole with a army vet who served on Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima. He was a BAR guy. Told me the Marines did all the fighting, and the Army cleaned up afterwards. He’ll be 103 in September. He got a pacemaker at 100. Over his lifetime he and his wife raised 75 foster kids. Really nice man and a very good cornhole player.
Met a guy in Texas, we got pretty tipsy on his porch one night,,,Started telling me stories about WWII, he was UDT, went in to the beach the night before Iwo invasion ,clearing mines and obstacles. He missed the pickup boat and spent the night bobbing around, he said thank God for the guy that invented the wet suit
