I hope that when and if she does become short of food that she does turn to you, and you help her out. Perhaps she might listen to you in the future, and might even start helping prepare as well..
“If they don’t go to the grocery store on Sunday, they have nothing to eat on Monday.”
Living without an easily-obtained safety net.
Right now, this is not even as bad as the common flu.
Not my problem.
She’s got her electric BMW. I’m sure she’ll do just fine.
Interestingly, the Chinese response in Wuhan seems like it was modeled on the CDC plans, perhaps with a bit of Chinese style authoritarianism mixed in.
OMG!!!! PANDEMIC 5.0!!!!! THE SKY IS FALLING!!!! TRUMPRUSSIA!!!! AHHHHHH!!!!
I dont have video on desktops in my office computers. What is good workaround?

Used to be women always wore (fabric) gloves in public. I wonder if that helped reduce the spread of disease?
Yeah, youre not cool unless youre engaged in creating another Coronavirus thread. Or maybe an LGBT transgendered perversion submitted by fags and lesbians.
Video doesn't have to be "on" a desktop today as most of it can be accessed thru the cloud using your Chrome, Firefox or IE browser and a USB camera. Depending on the size of your company and their security standards - Zoom is a nice option and they have a "free" service with some limitations. The website is www.zoom.us.com
If you need a more robust or enterprise level solution, Webex and Microsoft Teams would be the way to go and I can talk to you about those options.
Interesting, that she offers sacrifice on the Sabbath at the church of Piggly-Wiggly, Wegmans, or Publix.
However, if there is a delay of re-supply of the store's 3 day inventory, there is a possibility that she will be looking for food.
Plan accordingly !
No actually it seems the cool kids are running around mocking coronavirus thread posters...
Not worried? Good on them...
Don’t care, fine then don’t read em.
However, since I have a family member living in the area with community cases who works for a business that has facilities in Korea, China, Malaysia, etc....I care to read them...
Oh and my spouse just flew back from Sacramento, so it is more real to me than perhaps the mocksters.
I appreciate the threads.
I heard someone on the TV talking about how to prepare.
Sounded just like what they tell us every flu season.
Basically. And we have people on here broadly poo-pooing even that - not just the hysterical over-reactions that pop up.
1) masks are for the most part to help you keep your phlegm to yourself, not to protect you from breathing the virus in.
2) if you can, make sure you don’t HAVE to go out for a couple of weeks if the flu comes through, or a few weeks if the corona virus is prevalent where you are.
3) Buy mostly what you already do, and try not to be one of the people who only stocks 3 days worth of food. Even without corona virus, that’s stupid, if nothing else because it’s winter. Do this especially if you already have breathing or immunocompromisation issues.
4) if you have employees, be lenient towards them not coming in to infect all of their co-workers.
5) wash your hands regularly. Be a bit more diligent than usual.
6) actually use the cart disinfectant wipes when you go shopping.
That’s about it. Same solutions, just more vigilance - and right now, not even that much more.
Man I would do anything to keep them at home!
And....as a wise person knows, that so called 3 days of inventory is under normal circumstances. It's about 4 hours of inventory in a panic. With a lot of ass kicking going on in those 4 hours.
This woman is a text book example of the normalcy bias. Along with being something of an idiot.
A bag of rice, a case of pasta, and some sauce... Maybe one or two extra boxes of cereal. Seems a pretty meager insurance plan, but for this, highly effective.
Oh no! Buy an extra box of cereal? You’re a paranoid nut!
Have 14 days worth of food, batteries, First aid kit and meds. Did mine today. Even if the dreaded coronovirus doesn’t hit—There will be other disasters—Earthquakes, storms, vocanoes, Terrorism. War to worry about. Be ready, be prepared.
Ok. You’re going the other way. No, it’s not as bad as the common flu, here, while it is externally contained.
If you do catch it, it is on average much worse. Lowest estimates put it at about 20 times the very low likelihood of dying from the flu.
The recourse for most people for the flu is that it may or may not be even worthwhile to get a vaccine. For this, if it comes to your neighborhood, it’s actually important to be prepared to do the basic stuff recommend for a flu outbreak.
Mrs. Child and I would get somewhat bored with 3 meals a day of the same things, but we’d be properly nourished for at least a month.
Canned corn
Canned green beans
Canned refried beans
Canned black beans
Canned baked beans
Canned white potatoes
Canned chicken
Canned salmon
Canned smoked trout (delicious!)
20 lbs of white rice
10 lbs of dried pinto beans (vacuum packed)
2 Half gallon jars of cream of wheat & oatmeal
A couple of cases of flavored canned seltzer water
A case of wine and several bottles of bourbon
Upright freeze crammed with meat
And......a properly stocked gun safe.
And the obligatory motorcycle in case I have to ride around shooting zombies. LOL
All of the above comes at a surprisingly low cost, except for the alcohol and the frozen meat of course. And doesn’t take up a lot of space.
The BIL & his NY wife think we are kooks, no surprise.
