the term “homophobia” technically denotes “fear” of homosexuals,”and as used it is a charge of irrational fear. Although there can be some whose opposition to homosexuality and its expressions is due to an irrational fear, the pejorative labeling of all who express opposition to homosexuality and its expressions (or even fails to affirm such) is in reality a psychological tactic[1 ] * designed to intimidate and silence opposition to the same - however conscientious - by placing them the defensive via charging them with being possessed by an irrational fear.
And by so doing this tactic has worked to change opposition or lack of affirmation - from individuals to whole corporations - to support by instilling fear of homosexuals and allies, that of being called “homophobic.” Thus the use of the term often achieves its purpose by installing into opposition what it originally speciously charged them with.
Meanwhile to really believed that all who oppose homosexuality and its expressions and what they demand is due to an irrational fear, then this itself would be irrational.
However, one can conscientiously be opposed to any abnormal predilection and immoral practice and those who promote such without being driven by fear of the same. In this case that of believing that same-sex attraction is disordered, and homosexual relations are deleterious to both individual and society.
Indeed, ignoring other reasons and based simply on physical effects, if a consensual communal religious practice by men who represented about 4% of the population was the means of transmission of a often deadly infection (from which over 700,000 Americans have died as a result) in over 80% of cases among men, in addition to other greatly increased incidence of certain other infections (as being typical shown after approx. 40 years of practice) - and at significant cost to taxpayers for both prevention and treatment - then opposition to that belief and practice would hardly be denigrated as due to irrational fear.
Yet such is the reality of the recreational, non-productive practice of sodomy[2 ] , while the illicit nature of this sexual attraction and union is not restricted to that penalty for it.
For God made man and women distinctively different yet uniquely compatible and complementary, and only joined them together in marriage - as the Lord Jesus Himself specified (Mt. 19:4–6) - and only condemned homosexual relations wherever they are manifestly dealt with, as well as all fornication.
