China admits aerosol infection possible in coronavirus outbreak

KYODO NEWS KYODO NEWS - Feb 20, 2020 - 13:14 | World, All

This is interesting. American Academy for Anesthesiologists recommends:

Coronavirus (2019-nCoV)
Information for Health Care Professionals
...

Place patients in an Airborne Infection Isolation Room2
Health care professionals entering the room should use airborne and contact precautions, including eye protection.
Personal protective equipment3 (PPE) to be worn includes:
Either an N95 mask, for which one has been fit-tested, or a powered air-purifying respirator (PAPR)4.;
A face shield or goggles;
A gown;
Gloves.
...
An Airborne Infection Isolation Room (AIIR) has a negative-pressure relative to the surrounding area. A minimum of 6 air changes per hour (12 air changes per hour are recommended for new construction or renovation). Air from these rooms should be exhausted directly to the outside or be filtered through a high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filter before recirculation. Room doors should be kept closed except when entering or leaving the room, and entry and exit should be minimized. Facilities should monitor and document the proper negative-pressure function of these rooms. If an AIIR is not available, patients who require hospitalization should be transferred as soon as is feasible to a facility where an AIIR is available.“

TEXAS

Rice University asks “small group” to self-quarantine due to employee’s possible exposure to coronavirus

The Houston university said it’s making the move out of an abundance of caution.

BY MATTHEW WATKINS MARCH 1, 202011:39 AM

Saying the move was out of an abundance of caution, Rice University on Saturday asked a “small group of students and faculty” to self-quarantine because a university employee might have been exposed to the new coronavirus while traveling overseas.

The university didn’t disclose who the employee is, where in the university the person works or where the employee traveled — other than to say it was not to a country on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s restricted travel list. The university community was notified of the quarantine in a campus-wide alert late Saturday night.

I sort of stocked up last week, and will head out again tomorrow morning. We don’t have a Costco, so will try Wally World and Safeway.

“Doctor mentioned getting it through the eyes”

Is that aerosol infection via eyes or the doctors touching their eyes?

I’ve got another sign with the finger pickup tomorrow. That’s only used at their Ship To pickup area for whatever reason. There is only the normal seasonal flu concern around here for now, but I’ll be using the Purell after I sign for my items, a couple of prepper items that had to be special ordered.

Seattle Times staff reporter

Local health officials confirmed two more cases Sunday of COVID-19 in King County, saying that two men in their 60s with underlying health conditions were hospitalized in critical condition.

The two new cases raise the total number of cases to six in King County, where officials say a man in Kirkland on Friday became the first person in the United States to die of COVID-19. The illness is caused by the new coronavirus SARS-CoV-2. Two more cases at a long-term care facility in Kirkland were identified Saturday.

Excerpt:
So far, there are six cases in King County and two in Snohomish County.

The King County patients include a man in his 60s hospitalized at Valley Medical Center in Renton, another man in his 60s hospitalized at Virginia Mason Medical Center, a woman in her 50s who traveled to South Korea, a woman in her 70s at LifeCare in Kirkland, a woman in her 40s also at LifeCare in Kirkland and a man in his 50s who died at EvergreenHealth.

One student at Jackson High School in Mill Creek tested positive, and the first patient in the country to test positive for coronavirus was in Everett.

A patient at Seattle Children’s North Clinic in Everett presumptively tested positive. The patient visited the clinic on Feb. 24. Health officials are reaching out to clinic employees and patient families who may have been exposed. The age of the patient is unknown. It is not known if this patient is the same person as the Jackson High School student.

Nike closed its worldwide headquarters in Oregon for deep-cleaning after the 1st US coronavirus death

Nike announced Sunday it temporarily closed its corporate headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon in order to deep clean the campus following the first US death from COVID-19 the day prior.

“While we have no information indicating any exposure to Nike employees, out of an abundance of caution, we are conducting a deep cleaning of campus,” a Nike spokesperson told KGW, the Portland, Oregon, NBC-affiliated station. “All WHQ buildings and facilities, including fitness centers, will be closed over the weekend.”
