They were in a village far on the other side from Port au Prince. It was an S-hole to start with and the locals protected them. But it was several days before got word. Then ended up getting out about a week late. They did fly out of PaP, debut they were stopped several times on the way out with people with guns, cops with guns, and soldiers with guns.
The old nun running the group was able to get them through.
It was scary for us. And it was a learning experience for her. She learned that villages are much better than cities. She learned that helping people, helps a lot. She learned that the government is not riding to the rescue. And she learned to make red beans and rice or some Haitian form of that.
