Greyhound said Friday it would prohibit U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents without a warrant from boarding its buses to conduct immigration checks as bus companies continue to face pressure from civil rights advocates over the practice.
The announcement comes after an Associated Press report said a Jan. 28 Border Patrol memo contradicted Greyhound's stance that it had to allow the agents on its buses under federal law.

The company has maintained it didn't agree with the checks but had no choice but to comply.
The memo addressed to all chief patrol agents and signed by then-Border Patrol Chief Carla Provost before her retirement said agents can't board private buses without consent from bus companies.

I’m of two minds on this. Do illegal aliens need to be identified and deported? Of course. Do I want to live in a country where uniformed agents of the central government can routinely approach people in public places and ask for their papers? No. But this is a problem we will have until the border is effectively under control.
No problem...Stop all Greyhound coming from Mexico and turn them around...I’m sure they don’t need a warrant for that...
Bring drug dogs alone and let the dogs search the busses with their broken tail lights.
They can NOT do it. They will lose all their licenses/permits.
A foolish effort to save their flailing company by becoming the illegal express.
You can demand anything that you want. Doesn't mean you will get it.
Customs and Border Control Police do not need a warrant to search your car if you are within 100 miles of an international border or port (or airport). The laws under which they are chartered give them that authority. There are repeated official rulings which confirm this.
Folks in the FBI are green with envy.
Unconstitutional, you say? Violates the 4th Amendment, you say? Raise several million dollars for lawyers, and get a number of Congressmen supporting you, and maybe a court challenge could prevail. Lacking this kind of backup, you had best do what the nice Policeman says, or plan for a stay in jail.
We have come a long way, and not in a good direction.
Those pumper truckers for septic tanks don't smell as bad as today's Greyhound bus or station...
Set up TSA checkpoints at all Greyhound stations. They are already doing it in some train stations.
They don’t need a warrant to look in the open passenger compartment of your car. If they want to pull it apart or open the trunk they need probable cause.
Thank you Greyhound.
Once included in my travel searches, I can now shorten the search.
Do the immigration checks at destination depots, and charge Greyhound with interstate smuggling of illegal aliens, at each stop.
Good point.

Greyhound has long been in the habit of ignoring local, state and federal laws. The typical remedy for their behavior is to impound their bus for existing violations, like traffic citations.
I don’t know, this might not be so bad if it stops brown-shirts for a future equivalent of Mrs. Bill Clinton from stopping busses and removing people wearing their MAGA caps.
