The EUs post-Brexit budget meeting erupted into rows with poorer countries demanding more aid while their frugal peers were determined to rein in spending.
Brexit left the EU short of around £62 billion when Britain left the bloc last month.
On Friday after nearly 30 hours of discussions the 27 remaining EU countries failed to agree on the overall size of the blocs 2021 to 2027 budget or how to spend it.
Speaking after the talks in the EUs Brussels hub, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said: We have to acknowledge that the differences are too big still to find agreement. [ ]
Net payers dubbed the Frugal Four Austria, Denmark, Sweden and the Netherlands dug in their heels, demanding that the budget is capped at 1 percent of the blocs economic output.
After complex negotiations, the leaders were no closer to a deal than when they first convened on Thursday with a proposal to set the budget at 1.074 percent of the continents gross national income, or some 1.09 trillion (around £900 billion).

Sounds like they’re running out of other people’s money
Needs to send repo men to UK.
Oh! What will the Socialists do?
The powers that be in SweDUHn better be careful or they’ll get a call from grrrrrrrreta.
Tax, tax, tax. What else do they do?
Just pass a budget which will be spent in the first year and a half and then waste away.
The funny thing is, if the EU gave up the fantasy part of their budget, Global Warming, they would have no problems making ends meet. The Red Chinese founder of a company I interviewed with told me, (approximately) “The Germans are insane. They will buy anything you label as green.” I’d say that about sums it up. The whole Green movement is just another shade of crazy.
My first thought too. Maggie Thatcher was right...again.
Britain's exit from the bloc last month came amid costly new challenges, from climate change to managing migration and a growing digital economy.
Macron says that Brexit didn't do it, and I'm inclined to agree with him. I'm sure it didn't help, but the entry of the EU government into these areas was never going to be cheap. Governmental aspirations and ambitions can expand infinitely into a vacuum of perceived need, but money can't. "Managing" immigration, for example, gets cheaper if one stops when it becomes more than one can afford. Energy policies that are a net drain on resources due to a preference for ideology over science should be reconsidered and modified accordingly, should they not? Isn't this what coming up with a budget is all about?
The EU doesn’t own the UK or any of its money.
It was a joke of course.
Yep, the old RUNNIN OUT OF OTHER PEOPLES MONEY conundrum raises its head again - as it always does.
Sorry about that. Saw your other post and it became clearer.
How do you get such a long title to fit in your post.
The UK got annual rebates for all of its annual contributions not spent for the benefit of the UK and people.
The funding problem is not because of Brexit but because of climate fearmongers.
Why dont they just cut their defense budgets and let Uncle Sam pick up the slack? After all, that has worked before.

That, FRiend, is an excellent comment. But those people wont even allow any debate on the issue. You either believe in Global Warming 100%, or you will be shouted down.
Did anybody expect anything else? I said this was coming as soon as it became clear Britain really was leaving. With their 2nd largest cash cow gone, it was always going to be painful for the Yurps.
