Charging an EV at home is roughly equivalent to running a hairdryer 24/7 (if that). Most drivers won’t be doing a full charge daily; more like topping off daily from a commute way less than total capacity.

Yes, doing that on EVERY home will require grid upgrades, but is mitigated by slow adoption rates (fair warning, electric companies!) and cultural adoption of low-power replacements for traditionally high-power products (ex.: light bulbs now use about 1/10th of power).

“Yes, doing that on EVERY home will require grid upgrades,”

Nope. No one uses their hairdryer while sleeping.

Quick charge at a station is about 20 minutes.
Daily top-off at home ... well, just plug it in and it will be ready when you need it next morning.

“Was it proven in New Orleans or Florida or California?”

Yep. No gas available within 100 miles!

our electrical grid is technology that’s proven to fail when a strong enough hurricane strikes...
my area was out for a week after irma hit...
there were some areas around me that were out for at two weeks...

Expect insurance to drop for EVs that have autopilot. Tech isn’t quite “there” yet but is rapidly heading toward 10x safer than human drivers. Crash avoidance will prove significant.

“Thanks but I will stick with my Hemi Challenger.”

Will it do 0-60 in 2.8 seconds?

What is your point?

Cybertruck has (well, will have) a >500 mile range, recharges at a station in about the time of a regular long-haul break, and has a spacious cargo bed.

Except that you have to go to the gas station every time.
EVs will usually recharge at home, ready to go every morning. 10 seconds to plug it in.

I rarely had to charge my 90-mile EV anywhere but home. Most are 200-500 mile range now.

6 speed manuals are fine. If you like driving slow.

Actually peak load is during the day, lots of capacity available for nighttime charging. So much so that you can arrange with your electric provider to use it at discounted rates at late hours; car can be programmed to charge during cheap hours.

Are Tesla charging stations different from those used by other EVs? There is a charging station (4 or 5) at the Chipley, Fl., WalMart but I don’t know if these “pumps” work for Tesla or just other EVs.

I’ll not bother reading it. I’ll take your word for it.

But....I’ll wager there is no accounting for the environmental harm that the EV generates in mining and toxic waste disposal - a looming nightmare which hasn’t begun to be really felt. Or, I’m guessing the money confiscated from the taxpayer to lower the selling price. You can buy a lot of gas with someone else’s $7,000. Also not taking into account any other government subsidies involved.

Do I hate EVs? No, not at all. You like them, you can afford them, then buy them.

Two things I want to see:
- The real environmental impact of building and disposing of these vehicles and their materials & the admission that the electricity is not generated by pollution free pixie dust. No more BS green lies about EVs. They are not green.
- EVs standing on their own without any government (my) money

I can put solar panels on my roof, and drive an EV indefinitely after you’ve run out of stored gas.

There’s...no transmission. No need for one. 0-210 MPH on “first gear”. It doesn’t shift, except for reverse - and can go backwards just as fast.

The week before a hurricane hits Florida you can’t even buy a gas ‘can’.
