This reminds me of a Law and Order episode from over 20 years ago in which a divorce court judge was bribed to award favorable alimony and custody settlements to wives represented by one of three attorneys who were paid handsomely by the high society wives for their supposed prowess in winning cases. IIRC one of the clerks was murdered because she was going to spill the beans on how the supposed random assignments to the judge was accomplished.
