Astros owner Jim Crane spoke Thursday morning as the franchise trotted out several players and execs to try to apologize for the sign-stealing scandal that has rocked the baseball world for the last few months.
But when directly asked if his teams cheating cost the Yankees a shot at winning a World Series title in 2017, Crane said "Our opinion is this didnt impact the game. We had a good team. We won the World Series and well leave it at that.

I would offer this observation...all of this technology used...has been around for more than a decade.
I would suggest that if you open up the Pandoras Box....it’s been going on with five to ten clubs.
That’s assuming most pitchers don’t aim for his ear...
And I’m sure that Altuve knowing what pitches were coming -— had nothing to do with his signing a $150 million contract after the 2017 season.
MLB’s position is that none of the players who cheated should be punished. Nonsense.
Someone did ask...Marly Rivera from ESPN asked him exactly that....I saw it on Twitter.
Wow.
Christos! Stealing signs is as old as prostitution.
Man on second, reading the catcher’s signs and tipping off the batter; perfectly fine. Everyone one knows this, and they change the signs accordingly. Batter tries to peek at the catcher and there’ll be some chin music.
Hidden camera in center field, electronic relay, guy pounding on a trash can, not so much.
Don’t know what the punishment should be, don’t know how it effected the outcome of games, but everyone involved knew it was cheating. The Astros’ achievements have been tarnished.
“Thats assuming most pitchers dont aim for his ear...”
Yup, that’s what I’d be doing....
Crane clarified his statement to mean that the commissioner’s report said there was no direct evidence that the sign-stealing impacted any particular game. There was no way to tell.
Personally, the dugouts and clubhouses are crawling with MLB people during the league championship series and the World Series that anyone banging on trashcans would be immediate noticeable. I don’t think they affected the ALCS or the World Series.
And there's nothing preventing it from happening again.
What will stop Altuve from wearing a buzzer this year?
Im waiting for the movie. It should be called Bang the Can Slowly and star little Bobby DeNiro (wearing specially made elevator cleats) as Jose Altuve.
It might be the first opening day of spring training where the World Series winners get less press and media attention than the team that lost World Series. What makes it even weirder is that they share a spring training complex, it must be a zoo on the Astros side.

Baseball is just around the corner!

Cant disagree. This sounds like an extreme and bold act though. Having a makeshift folding table with monitors just inside the dugout in the tunnel is bold stuff. So obvious and impossible to deny knowledge once it was discovered. I think people have tried other things with technology, though. Interested to learn what Boston was going in 18. Little doubt Houston moved to a buzzer type version after 17. Its much easier to conceal. No table with garbage can needed. Oils be done from anywhere in the stadium.
