My response, especially about SDRs, was a bit tongue in cheek, but I have noted the IMF's heavy hand with vulnerable currencies - perhaps necessarily. If our politicians keep lighting cigars with $100 bills I know eventually the IMF will show up. I noted the Greek ATM machines doling out no more than $50 to each desperate customer. Try feeding a family and paying the electric bill with that... and if the electric company doesn't get paid their employees don"t get paid - cascading disaster. Then the IMF might start telling us what Constitutional rights need to be suspended - like those deadly firearms (desperate parents might turn to robbing banks - which don't have much money! ... only SDRs ;^/)

Talk about single pot stored meals; prepare to conduct commerce without dollars available. It can be done but as you say: prepare.

Wikipedia: the XDR basket now consists of the following five currencies: U.S. dollar 41.73%, euro 30.93%, renminbi (Chinese yuan) 10.92%, Japanese yen 8.33%, British pound 8.09% ... $$$$$$$$!!!!! You are right: I remember when the Brit Pound Sterling was worth something. The Ruble? The Mark? The Argentine Peso?

Yep. It’s a problem. And recall those “haircuts” that was what some banks in the eurozone did—% charged to the accounts. Hard Assets and a stash is about all one can do.

We buy sales of beef, chicken whatever and can them. Grow food in our garden, and can or dehydrate. Right now, I have winter wheat, rye, garlic, and carrots in the garden. They’ll be ready by end of spring to harvest.
