True. But it was published in 1964 just after JFK was killed. "Democrat" meant they would salute and honor the American flag, honor the Founding Fathers, learn the good things about America in school such as the Constitution and Bill of Rights, and have a lot of things where they and the GOP would say together "Yes, we can agree on that because we are all Americans."
How many things like that are still true?
