4,048 gold stars, each one represents 100 men killed in action.
Homes during WW2 would have small banners hanging in the windows.
A blue star for every son/household member in the service.
A gold star meant a person killed in action. Hence the term “Gold Star Mothers”.

Our WW2 vets will soon pass from the scene.
If you joined up as a 17 year old in 1945, you will turn 92 in 2020.
When my sons were in combat, I put a blue star flag on our mail box in their honor.
