To be clear, I’m floating the possibility this was coded comms around taking 8kun down long enough to move someone or something.
But it’s just conjecture. That said, it certainly stuck out to me.

How strange. I never realized that the Hawaiian state flag has a Union Jack on it.
When I first saw your post, my initial impression was that the NYT tweet was making some point about British influence in Hawaii.
Of course, that's not what the tweet is literally about, but the visual message is striking. The photo of people waving Union Jack-emblazoned Hawaiian flags juxtaposed with the headline, "Hawaii is a Paradise, but Whose?" almost feels as if someone is prompting us to dig deeper into the history of British influence in Hawaii.
