Romney's Religion not the problem. Vanity
Self | 2.05.2020 | Dr. Zzyzx

Posted on 02/05/2020 7:24:31 PM PST by Dr. Zzyzx

Several posters today have been criticizing Mitt Romney by simply saying “Mormon”* or something similar, as if that explains it all. I’m sure that every religion has someone who has done something foolish, but somehow, their religion is never mentioned. To help everyone understand that it is not Romney’s religion that is making him act like a buffoon, I’ve compiled a brief list of people that have helped make America great who were either raised Mormon or became Mormon. (In alphabetical order by last name.)

Gutzon Borglum: Carved Mt. Rushmore

John Moses Browning: Created the Colt M1911 pistol among many other firearms.

Clayton Christensen: Author of “The Innovator’s Dilemma” called the most influential business idea of the early 21st Century.

Stephen R. Covey: Author “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People”.

Henry Eyring: Chemist, Developed the “Transition State Theory” used by others to make Nobel Prize-winning discoveries.

Philo Farnsworth: Inventor of Television.

Harvey Fletcher: Inventor of Stereophonic Sound.

James Fletcher: Head of NASA during development of the space shuttle.

Gladys Knight: Singer.

Don Lind: Astronaut.

Ed “Big Daddy” Roth: “Rat Fink” car designer.

Brent Scowcroft: National Security Advisor.

Also, Eleven Medal of Honor recipients were LDS.

*Proper name: “The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints”

Several others have also referred to his underwear. Here’s a piece that explains that a little better.

As Pelosi has recently justified her behavior as part of her
Catholic religion.

Well-said, at least the main prob. (Romney the Mormon is still problematic in and of itself)

Good point, but the generalization stands true. Their entire history is one of extreme clanishness and putting their particular religion ahead of the country.

They are extremely underrepresented in the US Military. Utah is in the bottom 5 when it comes to veterans living in the state. It is near the bottom per capita of recruits. At the age where everyone else joins the military, they go on missionary duty...like Romney did.

A classic example is the Bundy Ranch standoff. He talked all the “patriot” talk and happily took all the militia groups that would assist him. But as soon as the standoff was over, he couldn’t wait to turn on Trump over the wall.

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2018/nov/28/cliven-ammon-bundy-criticizes-trump-immigration-border-wall

There is a reason they aren’t trusted widely and why they should never have a president.

Their brand of conservatism is parallel to ours, but it is separate. They are not motivated by the vision of our founders, but rather they USE that vision in pursuit of their unique religion and it’s goals. They turncoat quickly in favor of open borders and globalism. They are very money motivated also. They are highly regimented and love highly organized society.

But no, they are not dependable conservatives and republicans.

A good example is the Bundy ranch standoff.

Mormonism is anti-Catholic. In their holy documents the Book of Mormon, the Doctrine & Covenants, and the Pearl of Great Price, the Catholic Church is referred to as “the great and abominable church” and “the whore of Babylon”; Protestant denominations of Christianity are called “the lewd sisters” of Catholicism.

In fact, all Christian churches are deemed false by the Latter Day Saints. Mormon teachings influence their view of all and everyone who is not Mormon.

Romney’s strange actions today are therefore peculiar in his assertion that he swore an oath unto God.

Which God? God of the Trinity is not the same deity as Elohim, the Mormon god with a body of flesh & bones who lives on a planet near star Kolob. Jesus, the second Person of the Trinity is not the same as the Mormon Jesus, who is a created being and the brother of Lucifer.

Mormonism is anti-Catholic.

I know, and Missouri Synod Lutheranism is also anti-Catholic. And of course, we Catholics are anti-Lutheranism and anti-Mormonism.

That doesn't mean that when Sen. Orrin Hatch introduces the Hatch Amendment ("The Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment applies to programs that get their funding from the United States Department of Education. The PPRA was written to protect the rights of parents and students in two specific ways.") that Catholics shouldn't support him on the issue, and when Rep. Henry Hyde introduces the Hyde Amendment ("Restrictions on Fed funding for abortion") that Mormons shouldn't support him on the issue.

I have had Mormons come to the door and let them know my issues with their religion. I am grateful that NON-Romney type Mormons were an important part of the coalition that had defeated pervert-definition of marriage in California.

That was a real car first displayed in 1960. Featured on the cover of Hot Rod Mag that same year. Many innovations designed by Big Daddy.
Everything was controlled by the one "stick". Steering, brakes, accelerator... everything....

What puzzles me is that Romney is so politically tone deaf that he would bolt the party on such an important vote, when it was easy to recognize that this would crush his reputation with voters.

Even a jealous POS can keep a finger in the political winds. And that’s not always a bad thing, as this is often the only way We the People get the attention of our elected representatives.

But Romney chose the opposite course, with no discernable political benefit to himself. If he had voted with the party, he’d still be a jealous POS, but he’d at least be a jealous POS who realizes that politics is the “art of the possible.”

Very strange.
