Bring Out Your Dead

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

If a quarantine saves just one child's life, it's worth it.

My (Chinese) wife was telling me tonight that there was a group of doctors in and around Wuhan who were communicating via WeChat about their concerns about this virus back in early- to mid-December. They were particularly concerned about the long incubation period, during which the victim is shedding virus particles.

Several of them were threatened with severe disciplinary action if they didn't stop "spreading rumors," and they stopped using WeChat.

According to my wife, the threats came from the a Chinese state security agency

the stats at the end give us a glimpse at the mortality rate

deaths: 259
recovered: 243
(as of Jan 31)

that puts the mortality around 50%

not good.

but then, what would you expect from a bio-weapon

Why are they not telling us about recovered patients?
There should be 3 categories: infected, dead and recovered.
I never see stats on recovered.
