If you believe the various documentaries, Arthur Leigh Allen did the Zodiac murders in an attempt to set himself up as an assassin-for-hire.

"I can kill people and get away with it" was his pitch.

All of the Zodiac victims were randomly chosen and completely opportunistic. In no case did he say in advance who would be killed.

My niece is in a movie in which she portrays the crazy leftwing professor who began a love affair with the Zodiak killer. The director is the child of the affair between them, and the woman who had a child with the convicted Zodiak killer is still alive, and was extensively interviewed by her. I can’t wait to dig into the backstory. What I learn will be shared on this or a similar thread at a later date.

Two funfacts about Paul Avery:

1.After Zodiac threatened to kill him, other San Fran Chronicle reporters began wearing buttons that said, “I am not Paul Avery.”

2.Avery was married to Margot St. James, the activist who started C.O.Y.O.T.E., the hooker’s union.

I worked with a guy back in the 80’s that was the very image of the Zodiac sketches. He used to say he didn’t hunt because he liked to hunt - he hunted because he liked to kill things. Most of us left him alone.
