I-95 runs from Houlton Maine down to Miami, FL. I'm most familiar with the northern part, from Maine down to roughly Philadelphia. But, I'm going to assume you're asking about the stretch from Massachusetts to NYC.
Mostly, its crowded, but not completely. There's a stretch from Providence RI through the western half of Connecticut that's easy traveling. But, once you get into the more built up parts of Connecticut, it gets increasingly nasty as you make your way into New York City. Two lanes... three... four... the occasional left exit or merge... you know the drill.
Not surprisingly, as the areas get more populated, you get more rush-hour traffic, as well.
