Baked in space, yes... but NOT eaten in space!

I viewed an in-depth youtube on the technology, and a big thing pointed out was, for good reason, the maiden voyage features the baking, but the result must be returned for analysis. There is no eating the baked cookie(s). However, to mitigate the bad publicity aspect of that, the oven goes up with earth-baked cookies for the astronauts to eat instead (for now).

The youtube was quite interesting about the various aspects of the oven... that it cannot have any fan, that it cannot work by convection, etc.

These were also packaged as "food sticks," but it was the "space" that really sold the product.

What you would expect would happen after they made women astronauts?

Some may remember the old bumper sticker:

It'll be a great day when the schools have all the money they need and the air force has to hold a bake sale to buy a bomber.

Or the rejoinder:

It will be a great day when the Pentagon has enough money to bomb public schools having bake sales.

NASA employees actually did have a bake sale a little while back to protest budget cuts.
