There are currently 2,493 confirmed cases worldwide, including 80 fatalities.
“If ppl just practice common sense hygiene practices and avoid large crowds, they should emerge unscathed IMO.”
Wish I lived in Mr. Rogers world, complete with furry slippers and warm sweater, like you apparently do.
Thanks. I found this on the Morgridge Institute for (biomedical) Research site regarding coronavirus prevention: “The best way to prevent infection is by taking simple precautions that can apply to many infectious diseases, such as frequent hand washing with soap and water or use of an alcohol based hand rub.”
Thank you- I appreciate that info!
You’re quite welcome.
From inside China: there are now 30,453 suspected cases.
Official numbers, no doubt low in reality.
Wow!
Sounds like they’re saying that hand sanitizers aren’t as good as thorough washing, but they’re better than nothing. The “Morgridge Research Institute” (that recommended using hand sanitizers) is a biomedical research group affiliated with the Univ. of Wisconsin, and focuses on (among other things) virology.
This says it can prevent some strains of the flu, which I think (?) coronavirus is similar to. It says it doesn’t work against viruses that aren’t contained in a lipid envelope (which apparently the flu - and hopefully coronavirus - are).
LOL
I guess the FDA should tell doctors when they give needle injections that should use soap and water on the skin instead of alcohol. LOL The FDA is worthless and corrupt.
we’ve been required to gel (alcohol gel) in and gel out of hospital rooms for at least a decade now...we reserve soap and water for enteric diseases like Cdiff.
Shanghai basically shutting down until Feb. 9 (per Agenda-Free TV)
Ummm, I don’t follow you to good on that. Could you rephrase it? THX
Coronavirus really isn’t similar to influenza virions (except for symptoms), but CoV is an enveloped virus as you suggested. Quite a bit is known about MERS and SARS protein/lipid? envelopes.
Bttt
Instead lets start panicking and running around like Chicken Little! Thatll keep us safe! FFS, where were you during the swine flu, the bird flu, Zika, and the various Ebola outbreaks in the last 40 years? Do you know anyone who was actually affected by those illnesses? Ill continue to practice common sense hygiene techniques while you run around screaming the sky is falling, and then when this latest crisis is over we can compare notes.
