He said he was lost and I bet he suffered from SD - didn’t rely on his instruments and I bet that craft had a glass panel.
Well, I looked the pics of it when it belonged to the state of IL. It was old school at the time of the photos. But I wondered if it had been upgraded. I have no idea how an altimeter is set in on a glass panel.
If it was old school, and was off a few hundred feet, it’s possible that he didn’t even look at it until he was in the clouds.
But yeah, SD is a killer. :(
The changes in direction cause changes of the sound of the engines and rotors. That may be the sound variations that folks on the ground were hearing.
