Steve Lookner about to go live for updates
There are currently 1,764 confirmed cases worldwide, including 54 fatalities.
[Oh boy...ok...I’ll try again.
Transmissible: About 1700 cases out of about 70 million people quarantined. That’s 2.4 cases for every 100,000 people...while this is a bit of an apples to oranges comparison, the death rate in America from infectious diseases in 2014 was 43/100,000. Since the infection rate would likely be higher, I’d say the China situation isn’t hair-raising (yet).
lethal: 50 deaths out of 1,700 cases = 3% conditional death rate. Ebola’s contemporary conditional death rate is 67%.
In 2018-2019 in the US, there were 10 deaths per 100,000 people from influenza. You had a bigger likelihood of dying in the USA from the flu than of dying from whateveritis in China.
Hard analysis always trumps hysteria. I hope that helps, son. ]
For the best flavor, tenderest meat, and bones that melt in your mouth bat should always be pressure canned.
There are stories of family members and doctors getting into fights. Obviously demanding treatment for a loved one. That almost looks like the aftermath of a fight. With the woman at the end screaming.
The N99’s are good. N100 is best. Also there are P95, P99 and P100. Costs more but they also remove oils.
Cali case now confirmed. Kati bar the door. Homeless problem will be solved unfortunately.
I remember another poster here a year or two ago was saying we should get out of here as soon as possible-before it becomes impossible.
What if they quarantine our state? Probably the other 49 will be ecstatic though....
Not really expecting anything on a scale of “The Stand” but we should try and be alert and brace ourselves nonetheless.
The Hong Kong government has decided to convert an unoccupied public estate in Fanling into temporary flats for quarantine.

The people in the neighborhood are protesting outside the estate right now. They are not happy that the government is planning to send the suspected cases (majority of them are from mainland China) to the neighborhood at the expense of them.

I wonder if Ontario's chief medical officer will be offering a correction https://twitter.com/lookner/status/1221349785149607937
Around here, its what I call the French toast holy trinity - milk, bread, and eggs disappear *fast* with threatened Winter weather. Its pretty comical at times.
Surrounded by anxious and mask-wearing reporters during a press conference on Sunday, Chinese CDC official Gao Fu attempts to calm everyone down. “The virus is crazy. We don’t want to be crazy.”

“Okay - now go out there and tell people to calm down. And take off that mask!”
“What!!!??? Take of the mask!!!???”
Twitter comment:
“This scene is usually about 15 minutes into the 2 hour movie.”

Up to 14 days incubation. Read elsewhere the curve puts the average much lower, around 2-3 days. Varies by person.
No it isn’t. There is always needle sharing. But, again, it’s not airborne like the flu.
Oh boy, okay, I’m going to point this out one more time: the currently infected are a null set.
That 50 of 1700 are dead indicates absolutely nothing if 1650 of them are still infected. That could mean they’re recovering, or it could mean they’re not yet dead.
This is why using cases vs. fatalities is stupid. All of the comparisons are being made to outbreaks of flu or viral infections in the past, where outcomes are known.
The only valid data set for calculating motality for THIS outbreak is using patients who have recovered vs. those who have not.
Using those numbers, this particular outbteak is cause for grave concern
I am not saying that there IS a conspiracy. I am not saying that there IS NOT a pandemic over there. What I AM asking is: why would a dictatorial, non-transparent communist regime with proven disregard for her citizens and a pro-population control, forced abortion/one-child policy, try to stop the spread of a "pandemic" with high-profile quarantines and press conferences?
I am also coupling that question with the human tendency to overshoot on hysteria during the early stages of a panic. Lots of people thought the recent Ebola scare was going to be The Big One. It wasn't. Same with SARS.
I see panic, fear, and TEOTWAWKI sentiments aplenty here. Every other time that's flared up, it was proven unjustified. Meanwhile, the govt of China - which is as trustworthy and honest as the Clintons - suddenly is speaking to the press. What gives?
Again, its early days and maybe something bad is brewing over there. We should all be vigilant and monitor the situation and wash our hands, especially since influenza is a big killer but nobody freaks over that. But the spectacle of normally rational people, who distrust China and aren't usually prone to being lemmings, buying into this mania hook line and sinker is a little much.
All I'm saying is, watch the main show but also watch what the magician is doing with his other hand.
