Four Chinese patients have been taken to hospital in Scotland and tested for the killer coronavirus after returning from China with flu-like symptoms, it can be revealed.

The unidentified patients are thought to be from Wuhan, the city at the heart of the outbreak which has killed 18 people – officials today revealed the first person had died outside of Wuhan's province Hubei. Up to 10,000 patients in the city may already be infected, scientists fear – but only 601 cases have been confirmed. ... Scientists have today revealed the never-before-seen virus can be spread by coughs and sneezes from someone nearby – not just though saliva or close contact such as hugging.

Tests on the four patients in Scotland have so far failed to rule out coronavirus. Three are reportedly being treated in Edinburgh, the other is receiving care at Glasgow's Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

Passengers from Wuhan last night claimed they were just waved through Heathrow and told to ring NHS 111 if they began to feel ill – despite Government promises of 'enhanced monitoring' of flights out of the Hubei city. ...

Officials in China's capital Beijing today announced major Chinese New Year events have been cancelled because of the virus, which can cause pneumonia and organ failure.

Saudi Arabia, Vietnam and Singapore have today confirmed cases, meaning the SARS-like infection has spread to ten countries, including the US – where a patient is reportedly being treated by a robot. Chinese officials have warned it will mutate and become deadlier.

Perhaps what is going on with this virus will be a teaching moment in preparation for when something really nasty comes up.

Isn’t it great to have people from a country where snakes and bats are considered food for humans globe-trotting in this digital economy?

China knew they had a vector 10 days ago but shut down Wuhan just last night.

You just hope Xi catches it as karma.

Ten women for every man. And, of course they must be selected by their physical desirability to ensure the men are sufficiently motivated to do their duty to propagate the race.

Office workers covered under a plastic sheet ( like Visqueen) at work in their cubicles. This is beyond crazy.

We must fear something.

“We must fear something.”

Yep the robot is doing all the work even checking his heart. Only minimal human contact.

I expect major new cases announced in the next few days

Thanks... that is a problem as people can appear well and travel to distant locations.

Ebola has a short incubation period so it spreads slower.
