“Cavett did do an interview explaining what transpired.”

HA! I remember that, but I didn’t know who it was.\

I was watching that show a few days after that unfortunate event and Cavett had some old louche fellow on. It was someone very famous (and very fat, iirc) but I can’t be sure who it was. He kept saying how awful he felt, and how he thought he might drop dead right then and there. And poor Dick Cavett kept saying, please don’t say that, this actually happened here a few days ago!

Here's a link to his last recorded performance, which took place hours before his death. From 27 mins. on there is clearly something starting to go wrong.

...Singing about pride and freedom killing him, and then it looks like he starts having chest pains. That’s... a little chilling, actually.

That’s what my uncle told my mom thirty years ago, that they were going to find him dead up a tree on his tree stand, wearing camo. They found him five years ago. He’d just finished mowing his yard, and found him behind his truck after he’d fallen off his riding mower. Sometimes we can’t even be given the dignity of a graceful exit.

used to run star mountain plott line in southern California for bear but mostly coon and other stuff so very long ago. To old to run hounds in these deep draws of the ozarks we run blackmouth and mountain curs. the kind of dog that stops hunting when you stop to take a nap and lays down next to you to nap with you kinda of dog. tried to teach them to start a fire. they have trouble with the lighter... have to use hand warmers instead

They couldn’t revive him?

Great story, LOL! Had to look up the Blackmouth Cur - never had seen one before. Handsome dogs, cute puppies...but what puppy isn’t cute?

I just finished dog chores so, Emma Jolene, Osage, Fox, Bella Coola, Ho-Chunk, Oneida, Seneca, Yakama, Lakota and Cheyenne have all been fed and watered and are settling down for the evening after they took turns in the exercise yard this afternoon.

Ithaca, the Mule, got his ration of oats and 5 gallons of water, and he has free access to all the hay he can eat and shelter in the barn.

We went to the South West Wisconsin Coon Hunters Club dinner last night. Waiting to hear if I won either a lighted helmet, a gun or a #50 bag of expensive dog food. Fingers crossed for any or all!

You’ve got to make your own fun in this world. Beau is up at our cabin for a day or so, hunting Bobcat. He’s giddy as a schoolgirl these days with all of the fresh snow for tracking. ;)

One of the speakers last night was from the WI DNR and is the ‘Furbearing Animal Specialist’ so he gave us some good news about the prices of pelts these days. Wisconsin has the BEST raccoon fur in the world, and while it’s in high demand, the prices aren’t as strong as they should be. Eastern Coyote (the Western is prettier, by far) is bringing in $50 or so for a pelt. When furriers run out of Western Coyote, they’ll use ours next for trim on coats and hats, etc. He also advised that if we get a nice pelt of anything these days, to have it tanned and made into something - either home decor or a hat; prices are on the rise across the board so now is the time.

I have a Coyote Hat which I just love, but can’t wear it in Madison for fear of being stoned, LOL! I am encouraging Beau to start hunting those Ermine and Chinchilla; don’t know what the holdup is! ;)

Lots of people die on the toilet.

My news years resolution was to not die on the toilet.
So far so good.

did you ever run ad’s in “ Full Cry “ loved that magazine. Look up Ladner Yellow Blackmouth Curs thats one line we run...great dogs kinda of tight in the mouth but they run to catch like most cur dogs. So dang great your live some where that still has coon clubs we have to travel a ways to find clubs. Another big difference is we just collar our curs and let them out of pens to exercise. We always have a cur loose on our little piece of land. Our neighbors do not mind a dog running around. just ONE at a time. Hunting tonight from home hunting right now as I type will get up and listen if they are treed in a bit. We feed around house so all animals are safe around home even have names for the game we tree around home. Pelts are worthless around here as it was in southern cal

guessing you do NOT reuse names like we do...always have a Red, Kemmie, Bob , Sara, Sally. Had a papered plott hound named spook he had a bunch of horrible names on the dogs papers. I am a guessing you know the names of some of the old lines

“I am a guessing you know the names of some of the old lines...”

Beau would, more than me, but all of our dogs have good pedigrees. No mutts, except for house dogs, but we currently have a pedigreed Beagle (Rabbit Dog, who also helps train pups on their first hunts around the farm...usually treeing the cats) and a rescued female Basset Hound for house dogs...they’re out howling on the porch right now; nothing prettier than a hound’s bay! Bah-Rooooo! ;)

Beau likes to name his dogs after American Indian Tribes. The only repeat we’ve had so far is, ‘Cheyenne’ but that was my idea as we got a dog back from a 2017 litter due to the owner passing away. :( Her name was, ‘Squeakers’ which didn’t really fit with our long-term breeding plan, LOL!

He indulged me with, ‘Emma Jolene.’ As a pup she looked SO MUCH like her Mama (our stud bred to her) and one of my BFFs is ‘Jolene’ and I wanted to yank her chain and name a dog after her, LOL!

My other names that stuck with the future owners were ‘Sunshine’ and, ‘Taylor Marianne.’ I just look at the pup, right out of the chute, and the first name that comes to me sticks. ;)
