The older cars had fuel pumps on the side of the engine.
They were mechanical and operated off the engine.
In the ‘80s they introduced electric fuel pumps, placed in the fuel tanks.

The last one I put on myself in an old Chevy truck. Fifteen bucks and a couple of tools. LOL. I really think FORD or CHEVY are missing out by not making a new little truck with no frills Five on the floor, and all the old technology. ... A farmer truck. IMO thats why there are still so many of the older model trucks still in the road.
