A man shot and killed by a Los Angeles Police Department sergeant who was responding to reports of a man with a gun on the border between Culver City and Los Angeles Palms neighborhood was holding a bicycle part in his hand when he was shot, not a gun, as initially believed by the officer and witnesses, police said Friday.
The police shooting took place about 12:40 p.m. on Jan. 11 in the area of South Sepulveda Boulevard and South Venice Boulevard, LAPD said in a written statement. A supervisor assigned to the LAPDs Pacific Patrol Division identified by the department as Sgt. I Colin Langsdale was the first to arrive at the scene where witnesses reported seeing an armed man.

And so what if he had a gun. Is that a reason to take a life so freely?
Play stupid games win stupid prizes.
I don’t know the circumstances if his death, so I speak from principle only. If he had the time to comply,he should have dropped whatever was in his hand. It could have been picked up after once his dealings with police were finished.
Looks like a broken quill stem.
Schwinn quill stem
yeah, from the photo in the article suicide by cop. looks gun ish, sounds like it was pointed like a gun...
An (officer-involved shooting) occurred and the suspect was struck by gunfire.
Gotta love the passive voice here.
The supervisor stopped his police vehicle, exited and immediately observed the suspect pointing what he believed to be a handgun at him, according to the police statement. A nearby witness also observed the suspect and believed the item in his hand was a gun as well. An (officer-involved shooting) occurred and the suspect was struck by gunfire. He fell to the ground and was then taken into custody without further incident.
Are there more details or body cam footage? A bicycle nearby the guy was fixing?
>> A nearby witness also observed the suspect and believed the item in his hand was a gun as well.
You know that witness changed her story, right?
If they worked harder at it, they could remove it by one more degree...
When you point it at a police officer, it is.
So suspects should be allowed to point weapons at cops willy nilly? Are you crazy?
That wasn’t part of the story.
A rule to live by: Don’t wield things at cops.
I am familiar with this area...That area is near 405 freeway...Many homeless people are in that area.
To say the so-called witness is irrelevant?
Witnesses in urban centers often change their stories, particularly after the BLM types talk to them or threaten them.
I’m going to bookmark this thread. The LAPD usually releases bodycam footage pretty quickly in incidents like this.

If the bodycam shows what I think it will, I will laugh at you and your histrionics.
