I found this documentary quite interesting. It focuses on FLW’s time/creations in Los Angeles after the violent deaths of his companion, her children, and their staff.

Thanks for posting that! I live about 30 minutes from Taliesin in SE Wisconsin. He was a fascinating man. One of my Art Teachers in HS knew him well; she worked as an apprentice (or something) at one point.

15 years ago I drove for three days just to tour Taliesin. Fantastic house. We stayed nearby in a small motor lodge designed by one of his apprentices. Great time. Beautiful country.

It’s not too deep in the video where it talks about it.

I had never known that either.
Of course, I didn’t know anything, prior to last night, about FLW, other than he was a genius at architecture.

The things you learn on FR. Surprised there wasn’t an outcry to ban hatchet. It’s probably a good thing the townsfolk didn’t hang Carlton and he suffered from that acid.

Wow, Wright was certainly the philanderer.

he was a genius at architecture

He was a certainly a genius at exterior architecture. How well thought out are the interiors, where owners spend 99% of their time? There's not many photos of that. In modern times the state of exterior architecture is horrible, with mostly art-free boxy broad flat surfaces that look designed by computer.

Pennsylvania is close enough to me; I want to take a road trip to “Falling Water”.

My kind of place.

“Beautiful country.”

Iowa County, Wisconsin is part of our ‘Driftless Area’ because the glaciers missed us. It’s very hilly and very well forested. God’s Country. :)

It’s so hilly in fact, that even when your walking DOWNHILL, you’re still walking UPHILL! ;)

Our house built in 2002 features FLW influences.

View the documentary on YouTube Robert Silman-restoration of Falling Water. The house was literally falling down and the restoration project to shore it up. All basted on an engineering/design error/oversite. Fascinating to watch. I highly recommend watching it.

My wife and I have visited many Wright sites including Falling Water and Taliesen. However this past summer we visited the Dana-Thomas House in Springfield, IL. This early 20th century Wright design was amazing and very different than his Prairie Style designs. We also stayed at the only surviving Wright designed hotel in Mason City, IA. Mason City has a great collection of Prairie Style homes including a restored 1903 Wright designed home.
