Buckingham Palace is understood to be 'disappointed' at Harry and Meghan's decision to quit as senior royals amid claims that the couple did not tell the Queen before they announced their departure on social media.

They made their announcement on their official Instagram account this evening following speculation about a move.

Following their statement, the BBC's Royal Correspondent Jonny Dymond said on Twitter: 'BBC Understands that no other member of the Royal Family was consulted before Harry and Meghan issued their personal statement tonight, the Palace is understood to be "disappointed".'

A Buckingham Palace spokeswoman followed up by saying that discussions with the couple on their decision were 'at an early stage', adding: 'We understand their desire to take a different approach, but these are complicated issues that will take time to work through.'

"Disappointed" might make it though the 2020s as the understatement of the year. I hope Her Majesty unleashed a "We Are Not Amused" rant.

I can probably easily ‘work towards financial indpendence’ if I’ve had a life on the civil list, grace-and-favour housing, military training and trusts from crown funds.

He did not not tell the Queen because his grifter wife told him not to.

I hope she takes away the jewels and the autos and the houses and the paychecks too. The Queen just paid $4 million to remodel Frogmore Cottage because Me-a-gain demanded it. Now she wants the lifestyle without having any official duties? WTF??!!?

On a serious note, any abandonment, shirking or other departure from Royal Family duties is a stark, painful reminder to the Queen of the Abdication and the stress that she believes led to her father’s early death - even though the Abdication meant he became King and she became heir to the throne.

I quite like the Whole Foods in the Kensington district of London actually. I had Thanksgiving dinner with classmates of mine there as an expat! Best pumpkin pie I’ve ever had.

The verdict is in - Megan is an utter disaster, and Harry is a spineless cuck.

I'm said for the Queen. She must be very hurt.

I'm glad the Queen has stuck it out....Until Boris gets Brexit completed at least.

Markle?? We all knew from the beginning what she was....We just didn't know the price.

Considering Meghan’s background and multiple divorces under her belt this was predictable an outcome as death and taxes.

If it’s true that they didn’t even bother to tell The Queen about this decision privately, that’s really bad form.
That let’s everyone know the low regard this couple has for all things Royal. Was Harry just too chicken to speak up to Her Majesty? It sure looks that way.
He seems like a very easy person to influence one way or another.

It’s driven many a man absolutely crazy throughout history. Henry VIII comes to mind.

Those two are lucky this isnt the 1500s. The monarch would have forced her into a convent and sent the prince on permanent campaign in some far off place.
