Sumbul Siddiqui became the first Muslim mayor in the state on Monday, getting elected in Cambridge where her family moved decades ago after emigrating from Pakistan.
Siddiqui, 31, was elected unanimously on the first ballot by her fellow councilors. Following the vote, the packed chamber stood and showered her with applause.
The more and more different representation there is, the better it is for everyone, she told the Herald after the inauguration, noting Cambridges diversity.

Well, isnt that just Special!
Some mayors are just the equivalent of the person that just chairs a city commission meeting, picked from existing serving commissioners. They likely have a city manager that does the day-to-day stuff, and the mayor is just there to cut ribbons at most.
Looking to see the upcoming representation of:
Her first official act should be to move in the entire Tsarnaev Family. Maybe she could even appeal Dzhokhar’ life sentence for the Boston Marathon Bombing.
That would make the new Mayor a hero in Cambridge!
“Her family moved hrre decades ago”, ok, have they all been naturalized, or did they overlook that part?
