This is actually a rather clever article

The low chance of war with Iran
By Richard Fernandez
FTA:
If Trump’s goal was to drag the secret four decade war out of the shadows he has succeeded spectacularly. Suddenly Iran can no longer pick and choose when to engage. Suddenly politicians can no longer indefinitely fight this “forever war” without accountability. Pressure will mount in Congress to vote on what to do about it: win, surrender or initiate a negotiated settlement. If nothing else it will force them to articulate the alternatives. But they can’t hide it under the fold any more.
Whether intentional or not Trump’s actions have eliminated secret war with Iran as an alternative. “President Trump has warned the US is ‘targeting’ 52 Iranian sites and will strike ‘very fast and very hard’ if Tehran attacks Americans or US assets.” If Iran tries to dive into the murky waters of deniable conflict again the Donald has 52 depth charges to bring it to the surface. This puts enormous pressure on Tehran to either open another front against America or negotiate a ceasefire in its secret war against the US. As Shadi Hamid of the Atlantic put it, nobody really wants open war but Iran can stand it least of all.
I loved Fernandez for well over a decade, thanks for posting him!

No, killing Soleimani doesnt mean war
FTA:
maybe the killing of Gen. Qasem Soleimani, leader of the Quds Force division of Irans Revolutionary Guard, in a US airstrike in Iraq will finally give the presidents detractors the war theyve been anticipating.
Or maybe not maybe the critics are just as wrong as theyve been every other time: about wars that Trump didnt start, about collusion with Russia that didnt happen, about the crash of Americas economy the list goes on. The president should be reassured to have enemies who are so reliably wrong.
For some reason, the unlikely potential for Iran to negotiate a cease fire would be more alarming to me. They have no intention of ever stopping their assaults on non-Islam & particularly the USA. Ever. Any cease fire would merely be a ruse.
Freeper section 9 used to post a lot of Richard’s stuff here. I miss that.
Thanks for posting this article.

Good Article. Enjoyed it. However, Iran very clearly declared war on USA when the Ayatollah came to power. It’s an “inconvenient truth” that has been ignored—so I would just quibble a bit with the term secret.
Here’s a past article regarding that and some of the actions they have taken:
Attention Media Hysterics: Iran’s Dictatorship Declared War on America 40 Years Ago

Media hysterics take note. Honest commentary on the Trump administration’s 2019 diplomatic, economic and military clash with Iran’s vicious dictatorship requires historical context.
Here’s critical historical Fact One: Since 1979, the year the Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini and his initially broad coalition toppled Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the revolutionary Islamic Iranian regime Khomeini established has been at war with the United States...snip...
